Just a tutorial for how to see shadows. Its not so much a digital process or anything, but rather can be used in any medium of coloring or shading. Its mostly for cel shading, but its just a general tutorial anyway. Hope this helps.

Fuuuuu now I'm really starting to regret throwing away all my barbie dolls :(

Can cell shading can be learned just through photos. Like by increasing the contrast to better see the division. Or is drawing from life necessary?

Cel shading can be analyzed by increasing the contrast, but not fully learned unless you know what you're looking at and what to look for. Drawing from life is always necessary, and even increasing contrast in photos is a form of "life study," as close to "life" as you can get. Any observations you can make is good!
